What bottles does CapTool fit?
CapTool fits many common 28mm plastic beverage bottles, including most 16.9oz waters, 1-liter waters like Smartwater and Fiji, 2-liter sodas, and many sports drinks. Every cap in the catalog uses the same 28mm gasket family, so the compatibility list applies across Rinse, Drip, Pour, Mist, Wash, Feed, Trap, Weight, and the Utility Kit. The full tested list lives on our compatibility page. We don't claim universal because bottle finishes vary by brand.
Is the cap safe for water contact?
The cap is made from food-contact-grade silicone, BPA-free, and meets FDA 21 CFR food contact requirements. The cap is designed for rinsing, not for drinking through. The bottle itself is the drinking surface.
How is CapTool different from a generic bottle shower cap?
Most bottle shower caps are single-SKU products with generic packaging and no compatibility list. CapTool is built as a catalog: Rinse, Trap, Peg, Drip, Pour, Mist, Feed, Wash, Weight, Seal, and the Utility Kit, all sharing the same 28mm gasket family. Published compatibility list, demonstration videos for each use case, and a brand that retailers can stock as a system rather than as a one-off.
Which cap should I start with?
Most people start with Rinse because the use cases are the broadest: sandy feet, muddy paws, sticky hands, beach gear, plants, camp dishes. If a specific problem brought you here (fruit flies in the kitchen, a pile of loose hardware, a tarp that won’t stay put), pick the cap that solves that problem and add Rinse later. The Utility Kit bundles Rinse, Trap, and Peg at about an 18 percent discount versus buying the three separately.
Can the Trap cap touch food after I use it for bait?
Trap is dishwasher-safe and reuses cleanly between bait cycles. Once the bait is rinsed and the cap is washed, it's the same food-contact silicone it shipped as. That said, we recommend dedicating one Trap cap to the trap role rather than rotating it back into beverage use, since the bait recipes (apple cider vinegar, sugar water) leave faint residue.
Does the Peg cap require a specific bottle size?
Peg works with most clear 28mm bottles you can cut in half. Clear bottles are best because the contents stay visible. The 1L and 2L sizes give the deepest bin. Bottles with deep bottom dimples (some soda brands) hold less than the listed shape implies, but they still work. Adult use only. Use the cut-line guide card included with the pack and be careful with the cut edge.
How much can the Weight cap actually hold?
The carabiner is rated to 15 lb static. A 1L bottle filled with water gives roughly 2 lb of anchor; sand gives slightly more. For a beach umbrella in light wind, two filled bottles per anchor point is a reasonable rule. Not for climbing, load-bearing safety, or anything overhead where a falling bottle could hurt someone.
Is the Wash cap a soap dispenser?
No. Wash is a directed rinse stream for portable handwashing. The bottle holds water, not soap. Bring a bar or travel soap separately. The cap is not a substitute for a sink in food-service or medical contexts.
Will the Seal cap fit my Rinse?
Yes. Seal is sized to lock over Rinse, Drip, Pour, Mist, and Wash. It does not fit Trap, Peg, Feed, or Weight because those caps have different external profiles (cone, hook, fold-out bowl, hanging clip).
Can I use it for hot liquids, fuel, or cleaning chemicals?
No. CapTool is designed for water and standard beverage liquids only. Not for hot liquids, fuel, bleach, pesticides, hazardous chemicals, or pressurized contents. Full safety guidance ships with every package.
Is CapTool dishwasher safe?
Yes. The cap is dishwasher safe on the top rack. Inspect for damage before each use.
How long does the cap last?
With normal use, expect long service life from food-contact silicone. Inspect for cracks, tears, or warping before each use. Replace if damaged. Heavy chemical exposure (which we do not recommend) shortens life.
Will it fit my reusable Hydro Flask or Yeti bottle?
CapTool is designed for the 28mm beverage finish family used by most disposable plastic water bottles, sodas, and many sports drinks. Premium reusable bottles like Hydro Flask and Yeti use proprietary thread sizes and are not compatible.
